Nice work Nathan. Some thoughts:

  • It would be nice to provide a visual preview of a template being auditioned, including any institutional and/or departmental branding; maybe spawn a new window with the site being previewed?
  • Only some templates would be available to certain users (e.g. a Medical School skin that could not be used by anyone but Med School affiliated users) so there will need to be some type of permission filter on templates
  • I think the 3-paned Widget preview with Details is better than the smaller grouped previews of the actual tools. There's not enough visual info in the smaller previews for a novice to understand what they're looking at.
  • I like the ability to save a site as a template. This has been a long-standing feature request and our users (and departments) would love it

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the comments.

My next step is to focus a bit on the permissions tab, which will include tool/widget permissions as well as a few others (depending on how far I get).

That will for the most part, round out the "broad strokes" in the design... and then its on to details. So just how templates will work is certainly high on my list.

I agree about the 3 column widget selector. Just less noisy – as Mathieu points out here

Hope you can make it to Wed's meeting. Would love to get more thoughts along with others who'll be on the call.

Cheers!

Nathan
