2008 Sakai Meetings

The Sakai Foundation is moving to a model of one large international/community conference per year, supplemented by regional meetings or conferences. Since mid-2007, we've seen successful regional meetings of this kind in Australia, China, California and Rhode Island. To this end, the Sakai Foundation has been talking about holding meetings in the United States in the November/December time frame.

At this time, Virginia Tech and UC Berkeley have expressed interest in hosting these meetings in the United States in late 2008. This page is initially intended to capture potential interest in attending these meetings. If you're in another region and would like to add a proposed meeting to this page, please contact Michael Korcuska.

Virginia Tech Regional Conference 2008

Virginia Tech is discussing a teaching and learning theme, focusing on models of deploying Sakai as an enabling platform. Subthemes around marketing of Sakai vs. existing platform, enabling product differentiators from T&L perspective, developing support for change, migration strategies, user support, faculty development/training, etc. This would occur on November 11-12.

Berkeley Regional Conference 2008

Berkeley is suggesting a development-focused working meeting, possibly in conjunction with Fluid. The idea would be to bring end-users (and end-user support folks) into a workshop with developers and do some actual prototyping work. This would occur in late November or early December. We are looking at trying to time the dates to fall before or after Kuali Days which is scheduled in Newport Beach in mid-November.
