The Menu Bar

The menubar contains buttons for some or all of Sakai's functions. What follows are brief descriptions of the functions. The section, "Using Sakai," in this online Help Guide provides detailed information on using each of the functions.

Home

This button takes you to the course or project site homepage. Homepages can contain a list of recent announcements, recent discussion items, and selected resources. The homepage for Registered Users is the web page users see after they open a site.

Schedule

The schedule can contain class session dates, deadlines, web assignments dates, special events, cancellations, and other items of interest. It can be viewed in either a calendar or list format.

Announcements

Announcements are used to inform usrs of changes in the schedule or policies of the class, as well as to answer questions or make general comments.

Assignments

Several kinds of work can be assigned on the course or project websites. These assignments can be turned in electronically to you for grading and comments.

Drop Box

The option to create individual dropboxes with private folders for each student or other user's work.

Resources

This function allows you to post documents, electronic files, or URLs for users of a course or project site.

Chat

The Chat function facilitates online discussion between worksite participants. Unlike the Discussion function, Chat operates in real time with any participant who is online. Chat is faster and more convenient than waiting for information to post in the Discussion area.

This links you to answers to some common questions about using Sakai, plus links to the Help Guide and to email the Sakai consultants.

Discussion

For conversations in written form.

Email Archive

Repository for email sent to the worksite email address.

News

Read topical news from online news sources.

Site Info

Shows information about the site for site participants

Web content

Display content from a specified URL in the worksite.

Logout
