The SuperStructure is a Sakai-specific service that describes an organization hierarchy. Most universities are organized around a hierarchy: the university at the top, followed by one or more colleges or departments, groups within them, etc. Courses are described canonically, offered on a per-term basis, and sections are derived from them. Repositories usually have a root of some kind, nested directories and files contained in them. The Sakai SuperStructure is intended to be a way to describe such an organization primarily to describe inherited access permissions, but also to provide a navigational structure, etc.
