Sakai 1.5 Release Notes
Overview
Sakai 1.5 introduces a number of significant improvements to Sakai 1.0, in addition to numerous bug fixes. Enhancements, fixes, and known issues can be found in the Sakai JIRA database, either through the general address (http:// bugs.sakaiproject.org/), or by clicking on the Sakai Project (SAK) for specific issues.
System Improvements
- Scalability - Sakai 1.5 is much more scalable than the 1.0 release as we have reduced the memory footprint and normalized objects into a relational database.
- Improvements in database performance
- Improved JSF support
- Established HSQLDB as the default database
- Improved Realm APIs
- Improved Site Service APIs
New Features
- The ability for user to disable auto-refresh in Preferences
- Addition of grader role to Assignments
- Database conversion tool
- Context sensitive Help system
- Introduction of a Syllabus tool, with the following missing attributes:
- User access is not controlled by the Permissions tool
- Title bar does not include icons for Help and Restart
- Attachments cannot be made
- Partial Integration of the Tests & Quizzes Tool (SAMigo)
- More options for flagging copyright materials
- URLs that better reflect site content
- Better compliance with the Sakai Style Guide
- The ability to configure whether resources will be stored in a database or file system server
- The ability to enable User Presence in the UI (User Presence is disabled by default)
- Addition of Calendar Date Entry Widget
- Addition of WYSIWYG Editor
- Ability to query server to identify current user sessions
- Foreign Language Support for non-Roman characters. Note: At present, characters can only be entered from left to right
- Export/Import tool for courses
