General Learning Research information that is helpful in designing tools for and specifying best practices in Sakai:

  • What Works Clearinghouse Although closely aligned with the current administration's obsession for controlled, experiemental studies, lots of useful information available here nonetheless.

There is also a follow on volume, much thinner:
M. Suzanne Donovan, John D. Bransford, and James W. Pellegrino, eds., How People Learn: Bridging Research and Practice (Washington, D.C.: National Academies Press, 1999); online edition available at <http://www.nap.edu/openbook/0309065364/html/>

While much of the book is focused on K-12 issues, I found still found it useful for the higher education context.
