Make it Student Centered

Speaker(s): Susan Roig, SunGardHE/Claremont Graduate University

Session Abstract

The more we design the core of our instruction around the needs of the LEARNER, the more likely we are to design a course where our students are successful.

Presentation Materials

  • Session leaders are encouraged to post their presentation materials as Attachments to this Page. (See Attachments tab above.)

Podcasts

  • Session leaders are encouraged to post their podcasts on the main Newport Beach Podcasts page (a central repository of podcasts) and may also choose to link to them from their session page. See the main Newport Beach conference wiki page for more details.

Additional Information

  • Session leaders are also encouraged to appoint a note-taker and post the minutes of their session on a Page (see Add Page link near top-right.)
  • Participants and Session Leaders are encouraged to post Comments (see Comment form below) or create additional Pages as needed to facilitate collaboration (see Add Page link near top-right.)
    • Child Pages for this session (Added Pages will automatically appear in this list)

I had an interesting discussion from a participant from South Africa after the session. We discussed the useability and the necessity along with addressing learning styles to address ADA requirements. If you address the needs of the learner on one page the needs for ADA compliance will be addressed also. A student who has a visual disability will be able to access material that is audio, a student who is disabled physically and who can not use a mouse and will no be able to access what is in place for the kinetic learner but will be able access other available material and have the benefits of all material. So the class will truly be student centered.

This was sent to me after the session I have included the write-up here under attachment tab. Thank you Jonny for sharing and adding to the presentation.

Hey, Susan and Maggie. Here's the quick write-up I did just a few days ago on deep linking from the Lessons tool. I've just made a slight change to it based on Maggie's perfectly reasonable suggestion that we open a new window for the linked content. Hope I didn't mess anything up when I added that bit (I don't think I did, but if it doesn't work, please holler and I'll fix it). In any event, please let me know how it works for you. All feedback is welcome.

Thanks for a stimulating presentation today, Susan!

Best wishes,
Jonny
