Extending Sakai CLE to Websphere and DB2

Session Abstract
Sakai is well on the way of establishing a Community driven "open" Collaborative Learning Environment. The task now to be addressed by the IT department and application developers is how to integrate the CLE into the existing fabric of the institution, sharing information sources and interacting with operational applications. Marist College is currently engaged in extending the base upon which the CLE has been developed to include mainframe platforms running Linux for z, federating existing information assets with Sakai by building on an IBM DB2 XML database structure, and providing an infrastructure backbone based on the Service Oriented Architecture, Enterprise Service bus provided by the WebSphere Suite, to connect applications as services to the CLE.
This paper will discuss the progress to date on a "collaborative" effort between Marist, rSmart, and IBM to make available a tested version of this "extended" CLE for the Community.
