Business 700 - Socially Responsible Entrepreneurship
Linda Lim teaches a course on socially responsible entrepreneurship at Virginia Tech.
She has used Sakai to post a syllabus and provide resources for her students but wants to take advantage of other tools to facilitate her students' understanding of course material.
Her course relies heavily on group work as students tackle realistic case studies of socially responsible entrepreneurship in the state of Virginia.
Pedagogical challenges to address in the online environment:
¿ Professor Lim uses case-based learning
¿ She often invites guest speakers who have started their own business venture
¿ Dr. Lim likes to make use of podcasts to archive her lectures for students
¿ The class has several community based group projects
¿ Plagiarism has been an issue in the course
Result of group discussion
Assumption: face to face class with online activity
Syllabus and resources already in use.
Pod cast tool for publishing the pod casts. Tape the guest speakers (if okay by them). Use for student presentations? ![]()

Plagiarism - link to commercial software or built-in-tool? Built-in tool working well enough? ![]()
Use wiki for structure. Each group could have a wiki page for each case. Or melete lession builder. ![]()
Important: some kind of student discussion about each case or guest speaker topic
:
- Forums?
- Assignments with peer feedback?
- Assignments using forms for structure (can you do this?)

Ask students to blog their experience from the community based group projects. Does the blog tool allow each student to do this? ![]()
Questions for the teacher:
- What are your goals/objectives?
- What about assessment?
- Do you have any concerns about who can access the material (such as blogs)?
- Do we need to keep it simple, how comfortable are you and the students using different tools?
